Tonight started like any night. Except I went to work at seven am, dealt with all the attitude and work with a smile like nothing could phase me. Maybe because it’s new Years and that means a beginning to another chapter in my life. It meant another year marker in a relationship with my other half.

I came home and we bickered over video games where I’m my usual over bearing and hypocritical self and he is his charming easy going man. I spend two hours getting ready and at the end in exasperation and lack of confidence state formally that I look like a whore in which he responds with the normal “you’re beautiful”.

Friends arrive and we go downtown for two hours at the bar twigs to kill time before new years. At eleven forty five we leave to hit the restrooms we than have two minutes to spare and run to downtown square hoping we catch the countdown before it starts. We count down. Ten, brad skips and rolls on the ground only to spring back to hit feet, six, Aaron dodges through he metal statues, four Brandon is five feet a head grinning from cheek to cheek “how do I turn this camera on?!”. Two, I’m screaming along with the countdown excited for fireworks.

Bam bam bam bam bam. They go on and on. I glance at brad an he’s smiling. I glance at Brandon no pictures are being taken but he has the camera in his hand , on, and looking at me. I glance at Aaron to tell him what I observe and he’s on his knees. Hand in his pocket. Staring up at me. And he asks me the four words.

Will you marry me?

YES.

So happy for you!
