To me, these are (in countdown order) the top five most important wedding related things:
5 - A daughter and her daddy
From the day a girl falls in love she dreams of her wedding. This, in my case, is very, very true. But as it turns out, my dad - and I assume most other dads - has been dreaming of walking my down the aisle pretty much since I was born. Knowing that for that brief moment in time I’m making my dad feel like the proudest man on Earth.
Equally as important, I’m looking forward to my father/daughter dance. I am secretly sneaking photos of the two of us from my childhood ready to project/present or however we decide to give them back!
4 - The children in their important roles
Nevermind having your friend from high school, your sister and your BFF as your bridesmaids, I cannot wait to see my beautiful little daughter, Alice dressed in a pretty dress throwing petals out of a basket for all to see and my gorgeous little boy, Charles will look adorable in a suit matching daddy’s. He’s at the age where he’s starting to have “marriages” at school and I think he’d really love to be at ours.
3 - A dance for two
I love the idea of picking a song that will forever be known as “our song”. Although the way I think of it is that Alan and my love does not have a song, but a soundtrack. An album of songs to match our every moments. There are some songs like God Only Knows by The Beach Boys, Only You by The Platters and (Just Like) Starting Over by John Lennon but our first dance song, whatever it will be, is like….the released track. The one that goes in the charts….kind of!
2 - A day to remember
The most important thing about our big day is that I remember ALL OF IT!! Every part of the wedding will be personal to us. By personal I don’t mean that every napkin, glass and spoon with have A&R on it. I mean that everything will suit us, I want the day to reflect who we are and how we love. To me that means making it colorful, sweet and playful.
The photos, videos and guestbook are important to me because these are the recorded memories. Even if I forget some details I’ll have these to look back through.
1 - Becoming Mrs
Every person who has ever got married, is getting married or just wants to get married should say the same thing. The most important part of a wedding is that it is the beginning of a lifetime together.
Marriage to me feels like completion. It makes us a whole…somehow. I know that we’re living together, have children together and are together forever but I want to be Mrs Alan Davidson so much!
I can wait to have a ring on my hand that symbolises our love. I can’t wait until I look down at my hand and see that ring and know that forever I have Alan and he has me. I can’t wait until I have to change all my documents and things so that everything has my proper name, not this temporary one. I’ll love signing things and seeing my name and being reminded of the day it all started.
A wedding is the day when two people declare to each other and the world just how much they love each other.
